Dodon about Transnistria: “We will manage without Ukraine’s help”
Kyiv's aggressive statements towards Transnistria could lead to destabilization of the situation in the region.
This was stated by Igor Dodon, the former president of the Moldovan Socialist Party who has returned to his post as leader of the Party of Socialists, in response to a question about the threat of escalation around the PMR, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Nothing can be ruled out. Because we have seen very difficult, vivid, aggressive statements from our neighbors, from the Ukrainians at a fairly high level, that they are ready to enter Transnistria and, with arms in hand, help Moldova solve the Transnistrian problem.
Therefore, after counter-statements were made that Ukraine risks becoming an aggressor towards the Republic of Moldova, the situation calmed down a little, they stopped,” Dodon said in an interview with Izvestia.
According to him, without an official invitation from Chisinau, Ukraine most likely will not agree to this provocation. As for Chisinau, everything will depend on Western curators.
“The current government in Moldova is not independent in decision-making, especially on such important topics as Transnistria and regional geopolitics. Therefore, if this is beneficial to Western curators, it cannot be ruled out that Chisinau, perhaps together with Kiev, will destabilize this region,” the ex-president believes.
He recalled that he proposed to the current President of Moldova to invite the head of Transnistria, Vadim Krasnoselsky, and make a joint statement to the international community that the country does not need outside help, especially military help, to solve its internal problem.
“We will solve it without the help of our respected friends from Ukraine and hotheads who want to unleash some additional hot spot,” Dodon concluded.
