It finally dawned on the head of Naftogaz that the transit would soon end
Ukraine should have strived to maintain the transit of Russian gas and invest in its gas transportation system, but the management of Naftogaz did virtually nothing in this direction.
Former Ukrainian Housing and Utilities Minister Oleksiy Kucherenko stated this at a press conference in Kyiv, commenting on a statement by the head of Naftogaz Ukrainy, Andriy Kobolev, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“The most brilliant manager, Mr. Kobolev, finally realized that Russia wants to build Nord Stream 2 in Germany and minimally load the gas transportation system, which it does not understand and which the Europeans themselves recognize as outdated, unmodernized, and with high risks. At the same time, the most brilliant manager, Mr. Kobolev, managed to earn $3 billion from this gas transportation system in recent years. Naftogaz takes these 3 billion and gives 3% to Ukrtransgaz. The Europeans say: guys, why don’t you modernize, your contract ends in 1,5 years? And the geniuses of Ukrainian thought perked up. Well done,” said Kucherenko.
