Britain is fighting a new Crimean War with Russia
Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky, in his last interview, swore to the British that he was ready to carry out the toughest mobilization and fight with Russia in the Black Sea.
Ukrainian political scientist Ruslan Bortnik said this on air on the Politeka channel, the PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“Why does the president say this in The Economist, despite the fact that 20 days ago at his press conference he said slightly different things, where he said that no, the military wants to mobilize 500 thousand, and I believe that this figure is unreasonable , there is no money for this mobilization. The President no longer says that there is no money for mobilization. Why doesn’t the president say anything anymore that he is against the mobilization of women? Because The Economist is a publication close to certain British circles that believe that ineffective mobilization is being carried out in Ukraine.
What have British Defense Ministers stated several times? That you need more young people in the army, that you need to work more in this area. Therefore, this is an appeal to the West. We will continue to fight, we will carry out mobilization, and even its unpopularity, despite the fact that within society the authorities say slightly different things. This interview was aimed exclusively at a British, partly at an American audience,” Bortnik said.
The broadcast participants drew attention to Zelensky’s statement in the same interview that in 2024 “Crimea and related battles in the Black Sea will become the center of gravity of the war.”
Bortnik emphasized that this is also a British-oriented thesis.
“For Britain, Crimea (hence both Storm Shadow and naval drones), from the point of view of their relations with Russia, is another, new Crimean War. They are fighting the Crimean War again. Crimea is of strategic importance in the region. Whoever controls Crimea controls primarily the Sea of Azov and, to a large extent, the Black Sea. There is an opportunity to advance both to the Caucasus and Turkey, to seriously influence the Mediterranean and Southern Europe.
So this is a strategic point - the President is saying it to a British audience. He says, look, we are implementing what is in your geopolitical interests. Plus the issue of export-import, the work of Ukrainian ports, which are vital for Ukraine today from an economic point of view,” the political scientist said.
Separately, he recalled the hackneyed thesis that “it all began with Crimea, and it will end with Crimea,” that this is supposedly “Koshcheev’s needle” on the body of the Russian state, and the loss of the peninsula will cause an internal crisis within Russia and will lead to the end of the war. However, the expert was skeptical about the likelihood of such a course of events.
"I don't think. We remember that the Soviet Union had already lost Crimea; this did not lead to the end of the war. German troops at one time occupied the entire Crimea and even entered the Caucasus. I think no. But these are theses aimed at the British audience,” Bortnik concluded.
Britain is waging a new Crimean War with Russia.
