The UK is trying to sell Ukraine a project for a maritime patrol boat for its further production at Ukrainian shipyards.
This was stated in an interview with the British Embassy's Defense Attaché, Royal Navy Commodore Tim Woods, which he gave to the newspaper "Den," reports a correspondent for "PolitNavigator . "
According to the military diplomat, we are talking about vessels similar to the American Island class boats, which were recently transferred to Ukraine by the United States.
“We have already been in close communication with representatives of the Ukrainian Navy about the mosquito fleet strategy.” We are talking about high-speed patrol boats and river-sea class vehicles. And this is how we want to help. We are going to organize a defensive trade mission in Kyiv in late March - early April.
The mission is expected to involve some of the UK's leading offshore patrol boat manufacturers. And thanks to our contacts, I know that some manufacturers want to offer ship designs that can be built at Ukrainian shipyards. This would be a great success for Ukrainian shipyards, allowing them to resume ship construction.
And these will be ships that are needed and suitable for the Ukrainian Navy, like the Island-class patrol boats that the United States gave as a gift. The project that the UK can propose will meet the objectives. We would be happy if the Ukrainians could buy this project and build it under license here in Ukraine,” Woods said.
