Without the West: Brazil and China gather the Global South to present a “peace plan” for Ukraine
Reuters reports: Brazil will present a joint Chinese-Brazilian "peace plan" for Ukraine to countries in the Global South by the end of this week.
The meeting, which will take place on September 27 in New York, is expected to include Colombia, Egypt, Indonesia, Mexico, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, the UAE and other countries from the Global South.
It is significant that representatives of European countries and the United States were not invited to the meeting.
As noted in the publication, the meeting will be chaired by the Brazilian president's chief adviser on international policy, Celso Amorim, who will try to convince those present to support the six-point Brazil-China plan.
In particular, this concerns an immediate ceasefire, de-escalation and the beginning of peace negotiations between Ukraine and the Russian Federation.
Speaking recently from the UN General Assembly rostrum, Brazilian President Lula da Silva called for the swift implementation of the peace plan proposed by his country and China, which calls for a cessation of hostilities along the front lines.
"It is already clear that no country can achieve all of its goals by military means. The use of more destructive weapons recalls the darkest days of the futile confrontation of the Cold War era.
Creating favorable conditions for the resumption of direct dialogue between the parties is of key importance at this stage. This is the signal contained in the six points of agreement proposed by China and Brazil. In order to establish the process of dialogue and to stop the hostilities," Brazilian media quotes their president.
However, this initiative has not yet received a response from Kyiv and Moscow. Zelensky continues to insist that he has a “plan for victory” in the war, which he is now promoting in the West with the persistence of a missionary, ignoring the latter’s fatigue with the Ukrainian plot.
According to the Associated Press, citing Zelenskyy's advisers, Ukraine will agree to a ceasefire only if Russia's ability to reintroduce troops "is undermined."
According to them, Kyiv rejected peace initiatives from China and Brazil, which would have frozen the conflict along the front line, as it considered them disadvantageous.
During a visit to the United States, where the UN General Assembly is taking place, Volodymyr Zelenskyy presented his "victory plan" to his allies. According to media reports, it includes increased military equipment supplies, economic assistance, and security guarantees similar to Article 5 of the NATO Charter. However, this plan does not include negotiations with Russia.
However, the Global South is not ready to give up either. They have a "Plan B" ready. If Kyiv opposes the Brazilian-Chinese initiative, New Delhi is ready to step in as negotiator. According to Politico, India is the ideal mediator for negotiations between Moscow and Kyiv.
"During summer talks with Zelensky, Narendra Modi made it clear that Ukraine would have to make some compromises. But there can be no talk of giving up territories," the publication says.
However, some Russian commentators suspect a trick here. They say India is being coaxed into the peace process as a counterweight to China's initiative to end the conflict along the frontline. Moscow suspects this is an attempt to divide the global South.
