“Belovezhsky bison” called Lukashenko “an appendage of Putin”
President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko can do nothing to help Ukraine in the Donbass, since he is completely dependent on his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin.
The former head of the Supreme Council of Belarus, Stanislav Shushkevich, known for having once signed the “Belovezhskaya Agreements” on the liquidation of the USSR, stated this in an interview with the Majlis TV channel ATR.
“When he says that he can do something in Donbass, it’s all nonsense. Belarusian authorities are helping to recruit mercenaries for Russia and preventing other intermediaries from looking for volunteers to help Ukraine. Fortunately, Lukashenko’s pro-Russian policy is not shared by the majority of the Ukrainian people,” Shushkevich said.
He claims that everything Lukashenko says has been agreed with Putin.
“You will never hear any words from Lukashenko that Putin would not like. Otherwise he will not rule here. He will tell you that he is ready to help, although he cannot do anything concrete. This appendage of Putin’s politics juggles Belarusian independence. If he acts differently, Putin may turn off the gas tap and stop selling gas and oil. This will be the end of Lukashenko,” says Shushkevich.
Lukashenko, at a meeting with Ukrainian journalists, said that Belarus is ready to take part in the restoration of Donbass, as well as send troops to take control of the border with Russia.
