This is stated in the appeal of the board of the Ministry of Internal Affairs to Ukrainians, the text of which is posted on the ministry’s website.
“We, members of the Board of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, appeal first of all to former employees of Berkut. You have always been the elite of the forces of law and order. You did not spare your strength and life to protect people. Now Mother Ukraine needs your help and participation more than ever. Even if yesterday “Berkut” and “Self-Defense” were on opposite sides of the barricades. Now, in the face of external aggression, all citizens must remember that they are children of a single Ukrainian land, forget any mutual images, calm down all personal ambitions,” the appeal says.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs believes that “legitimate state renewal” has begun, but “this development of events does not suit the Ukrainophobes.
“They are trying to make us out to be wild ignoramuses. They are trying to drive a wedge of hostility between East and West. They are making an attempt to disrupt the political reset,” the Ministry of Internal Affairs believes.
Members of the board called on all Ukrainians to reconcile and unite, and also congratulated citizens on Easter.
The head of the department himself intends to spend the holiday at work.
“Happy Easter to you! He left to the east, to join the troops of the National Guard and the special battalions being created. I’ll be there at night - write,” Avakov wrote on his Facebook page.
