Aksenov denies kidnapping Shchekun and accuses Maidan activists of destroying passports
Simferopol, March 10 (Navigator, Astra Yazyka) – Crimean Euromaidan activist Andrei Shchekun was indeed detained by the republican special services. Today, Maidan participants are being detained, who, under the guise of police officers, are destroying citizens’ passports.
As a Navigator correspondent reports, the head of the Council of Ministers of Crimea, Sergei Aksenov, said this in an interview with a number of publications in Simferopol.

“Shchekun was detained by representatives of the Crimean special services, not self-defense. A lot of provocative materials and documents were confiscated. At the same time, he will be released if he does not carry out subversive activities on the territory of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea. Only procedural measures are applied to him in their purest form, he is alive and well,” Aksenov said.
He added that today in populated areas of Crimea, Euromaidan participants dressed in police uniforms are tearing up Ukrainian passports.
“What should we do with such people? Just sit and watch the situation? Sorry, today is wartime. This requires taking certain strict measures. If someone wants to disrupt and destabilize the situation, then we will restrict freedom. We have no other option,” says Aksenov.
The day before, Shchekun, along with another activist of the Ukrainian community, ex-chairman of the Republican Forestry Committee of Crimea Anatoly Kovalsky, was detained on the morning of March 9 at the train station in Simferopol, but he never made it to any police station. The Prosecutor General's Office of Ukraine reported that the Zheleznodorozhny regional department of Simferopol opened criminal proceedings into the disappearance of the activist.
The day before, reports appeared in various publications about scammers who, under the guise of employees of precinct commissions or police officers, ask citizens to present their passports, which they either spoil or take away.
