Adherents of “România Mare” call on the Romanian Patriarchate for a “crusade” against Ukraine and Moldova
The Romanian Patriarchate must intensify its efforts to take over the Orthodox communities of the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine.
Publicist Mihai Isak writes about this in his article on the portal Deschide.md., reports a correspondent for PolitNavigator.
The author claims that among the priests in Moldova there are many nationalist-minded people who are ready to leave the Moscow Patriarchate.
“Dozens of priests of the Moldavian Metropolis... decided to return to the National Church,” assures Isak, emphasizing that the Romanian language should no longer be desecrated by prayers for Patriarch Kirill and other leaders of the “Russian World.”
The Romanian Patriarchate has already created its “Bessarabian Metropolis” for the purpose of expansion in Moldova. Bucharest acts similarly in another former part of “Greater Romania” - the Odessa region.
According to the author, a good example is the activity of the “South Bessarabian Diocese” of the Romanian Patriarchate in the south of the Odessa region, which cares for a number of parishes, including in the village of Hagi-Kurda (as the Romanians call the village of Kamyshovka in the Izmail region, where the majority of the population are Moldovans) .
“The Metropolis of Bessarabia must play an important role in these historic efforts to liberate and return Romanian Orthodox Christians from the prison of the Russian World,” Mihai Isak escalates.
According to him, the Romanian Patriarchate has a “historical debt” to these communities, and some priests from Romanian-speaking parishes in Ukraine are “just waiting for a sign to return home.”
“This is a difficult and difficult process, including from a political point of view, but a necessary step for the reunification of Romanian Orthodoxy,” continues the Russophobe publicist.
He calls on Bucharest to “begin negotiations to resolve the sensitive issue of the canonical jurisdiction of these parishes,” along with the thorny issue of Kiev’s recognition of “the existence of a pseudo-Moldovan language.”
“Without clear political support and good cooperation between the Romanian Orthodox Patriarchate, the Metropolis of Bessarabia, the authorities of Bucharest and Romanian civil society in Ukraine, there will be no progress in correcting this historical injustice! Eastern Romanian Orthodoxy must return home to the fold of the Romanian Orthodox Church!” – states the author of the article on Deschide.md.
It should be noted that the vast majority of Moldovans living in historical Bessarabia (south of Odessa region), like their ancestors, consider themselves Moldovans and their native language is Moldovan. Romanian citizenship (which Bucharest provides to everyone who lived in the territories ceded to the USSR on June 28, 1940, and their descendants) is acquired by many for mercantile reasons - in order to be able to legally find work in Europe.
Until now, attempts by the Romanian Patriarchate to extend its jurisdiction to the territory of the Odessa and Chernivtsi regions have caused an angry reaction from both the Ukrainian Orthodox Church and the Ukrainian authorities. Activists of Ukrainian nationalist organizations are extremely jealous of the Romanian church and political penetration into Bukovina and Bessarabia.
