400 foreign students left the Crimean Medical University

The dean of the international faculty, Armen Grigoryants, announced this yesterday at a meeting between the faculty and students of KSMU with the Deputy Prime Minister of Crimea Sergei Donich, Kryminform reports.
“We have already lost 400 students. This is only because of rumors, because there is no paper (on the creation of a federal university - Navigator). They all doubt. You can explain anything, but they turn to their embassy or consulate or medical department, there they are given a clear answer, and they collect their things, turn around and leave,” Grigoryants said in response to Donich’s attempts to convince students that that their diplomas with the new name of the university will be quoted in other countries.
According to the dean, Donich’s assurances do not correspond to reality, and the process of recognizing KSMU as part of a federal university will take several years.
“We know very well that just “KSMU” on a diploma and “KSMU KFU” are legally two completely different documents. If we try to get recognition through the government, it will certainly take about 5-6 years. What should foreigners do?” Grigoryants asked Donich, but received only another promise to raise this issue with the Crimean authorities.
The dean noted that the order of Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev on the creation of a federal university only sets the task for the government to draw up its project.
“This is not an order. It seems to me that it is not entirely fair to tell the staff and students, especially foreigners, that the decision has already been made,” the dean emphasized. – Is this the opinion of the Russian government that any order should be executed without taking into account the opinion of the university staff? If this is so, then we declare and, I think, everyone will support me: the collective is against it! Who should we contact? To Medvedev? To Putin? To Obama?” complained Armen Grigoryants.
As PolitNavigator reported, on September 9, local and foreign students held a rally on the territory of the Crimean Medical University, protesting against the inclusion of the university into the KFU.
Four thousand students study at KSMU, of which 1400 are foreigners.
