Denis Denisov, head of the Ukrainian branch of the Institute of CIS Countries, stated this in a commentary for PolitNavigator.
“This is a resignation that has been expected for too long,” the expert believes. – Mikhail Yuryevich stayed in his position for about 7 years. His stay seems to have been a necessary measure. His delay in this post was caused solely by his friendly relations with the current president, Petro Poroshenko. He had direct communication contact. However, based on the decision made, it can be assumed that the Russian leadership is changing its tactics and strategy in Ukraine, and such a channel is no longer needed. Now we will expect the Russian Federation to update a new approach and, apparently, change its policy towards Ukraine.”
The agency’s interlocutor says that Zurabov did not fully represent the Russian Federation in Ukraine, and “instead of fulfilling the duties of ambassador in full, Mikhail Yuryevich conducted a quiet behind-the-scenes policy.”
“People living in Ukraine who are loyal to the Russian Federation criticized Zurabov for not even seeing any support from the ambassador,” Denisov added. – He did not personify the representation of the Russian Federation in Ukraine. It was impossible to turn to him for help, advice, or hints. This outraged many. Mikhail Yuryevich did not want to communicate with anyone - neither with the public, nor with experts loyal to Russia.”
