NATO Deputy Secretary General learned that “the United States is losing devastatingly to Russia and China”
Even though NATO spends much more than Russia on defense, this does not give the alliance military superiority over the Russian army.
This was stated during an interview with NATO Deputy Secretary General Rose Gottemoeller by Tim Sebastian, a British journalist and host of the television program “Conflict Zone,” broadcast by the Deutsche Welle TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Last month, David Ochmanik, a senior analyst at the Center for American Security, said quite clearly that the results of computer simulations simulating conflicts with Russia and China clearly show that the United States is losing, completely and devastatingly. He formulated it a little differently, but that’s the meaning. He added that the United States cannot prevent aggression from the enemy. Do you think this fact went unnoticed in Moscow?” – Sebastian asked.
“I think it is necessary to conduct maneuvers and exercises without losing sight of the overall situation, and if we come to the conclusion that we have problems, we need to solve them, and that means working hard. But that’s exactly what we’re doing now,” Gottemoeller replied.
“It is shocking that the Alliance has all these problems, given the huge difference in defense spending between NATO countries and Russia. NATO spends much more and, despite this, loses to Russia in all simulations. Taking into account the fact that the total economic power of NATO countries as of 2016 exceeds Russia by 31 times! What are you doing with all this money? – Sebastian continued to press.
“I would pose the question this way: Are what you are talking about really the real problems?” – the Deputy Secretary General of the Alliance waved it off.
“It would be very interesting to look at how the Russian General Staff conducts exercises; I am sure that they also simulate situations in which they are inferior to their opponents, and this forces them to work on their mistakes. So, I think we need to take into account what challenges both sides face, and in the case of NATO and its allies, I see combat-ready units that adapt to modern methods of warfare, and do so with flexibility and at great speed. I’m not sure that this can be said about the Russian Armed Forces,” Rose Gottemoeller added evasively.
