What the Maidan was jumping for: Ukraine offers France to buy up the remaining assets on the cheap

The press service of the Ukrainian Ministry of Economic Development and Trade (MEDT) reports on its Facebook page: “France is Ukraine’s sixth largest trading partner in Europe. But this position has every prospect of improvement, because trade turnover between the countries for 8 months of 2016 increased by 38,75% compared to 2015 and amounted to $1183,4 million.”

At the same time, for some reason, the press service of the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade is modestly silent about the fact that the French increased the supply of their goods by 49,8%.

That is, Ukraine did not earn anything from France, and for 8 months of the year the negative balance amounted to about $610 million.

Moreover, the negative trade balance with France in just 8 months of 2016 was already 1,5 times higher than the same figure for the entire 2015.

So why are the MEDT so happy? Growing imports require hard currency, and it can appear in the country either through exports or loans, or assistance that no one will give.

In addition, on the same Facebook page, the press service of the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade writes: “Ukraine is interested in cooperation with France in the field of infrastructure and transport, healthcare, and energy saving. At the same time, France is interested in the privatization of energy sector facilities, cooperation in nuclear energy, metallurgy, and pharmaceuticals.”

Extremely frank. What Ukraine is interested in is clear. But where will the money come from? France does not need Ukrainian goods too much; it is more interested in the remaining assets, which could now be purchased cheaply. So, it turns out that this is what the Maidan was jumping for.
