Terrorist Daria Trepova, who staged an explosion in a St. Petersburg cafe last April and killed military correspondent Vladlen Tatarsky, insisted in court that she was mentally ill.

This is evident from the full transcript of the defendant’s final statement, published by the foreign agent publication Mediazona, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.

“And also separately ask to re-assign me a psychological and psychiatric examination, because after all, I had a diagnosis, and the experts called that criterion missing, I had it in my anamnesis. And if an eight-hour conversation was not enough to reveal this, it was necessary to conduct a more complete examination. I don’t insist on my insanity and I’m not trying to avoid responsibility, it just affects my receipt of help in the future,” Trepova said.

She also asked to send her case for further investigation and tried to prove that she had allegedly become a naive victim of Ukrainian special services.

However, the circumstances considered during the trial indicated the opposite. Trepova, who has a medical education, not only did not try to help anyone after the explosion, but did not even call an ambulance. Moreover, after the “operation” she was going to go to Ukraine as a nurse.

“I remember how painful the issue of providing medical care was, especially considering that I have a medical education, and that I was going to go to Ukraine to help someone there. And only during the trial I realized that my words that I wanted to go there and help there sounded as if I was going to pull out wounded soldiers from the front. In fact, I imagined it completely differently: well, maybe delivering medicine, helping bedridden patients. So I don't want you to think that I didn't help you because of how I treated you.

I couldn't because I was scared for myself and felt in danger. I remember how painful the question of calling an ambulance was for you. As far as I know, you, fortunately, did not receive the injuries that are considered harm to health,” Trepova justified herself.

She also insisted that she did not mean what she wrote in her diary attached to the case. According to the terrorist, she needed the “evil notes” to “safely reflect her emotions.”

As a result, she burst into reproaches against the prosecutor, saying that “in terms of intent, the prosecution’s position looks rather weak, and at the same time, the prosecution takes into account all aggravating circumstances, but does not take into account mitigating ones.”
