This was stated by the former deputy secretary of the Security Council of Ukraine, former deputy commander of the special operations forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Serhiy Krivonos, in an interview with the magazine “ Ukrainian Week ,” as reported by a correspondent of “PolitNavigator.”
He calls for the creation of territorial defense not from regular units.
“The fact is that now the Armed Forces of Ukraine are already exhausted by the long-term confrontation with the Russian Federation, and there is simply no way to “take” a certain number of people from them to create territorial defense,” says Krivonos.
According to him, territorial defense should include maintaining order in the territories controlled by Kyiv.
“This is the protection of state-level, local-level facilities and critical infrastructure, if necessary, to maintain the police regime,” says the general.
He says that there are more than 750 critical infrastructure facilities in Ukraine, the failure of which could cause big problems.
“Who will protect them? The army will fight, the National Guard is not enough. Only we can protect ourselves. Let me give you a few examples. There is a Belarusian-Ukrainian border - 1086 km, which we clearly understand that this is a border with Russia’s allies in the fight against us. Up to 200 groups of special forces troops can be withdrawn from Belarus to the territory of Ukraine across this border. Who will resist them while the army is at war?” says Krivonos.
As PolitNavigator reported, Krivonos previously claimed that Russia would strike Ukraine "in a modern, highly precise, and lightning-fast manner."
He also threatened that in the event of a war with the Russian Federation, Russians would not be taken prisoner, but would be “mercilessly destroyed.”
