Wasserman: The Kremlin will soon straighten the minds of everyone dreaming of a second Chechnya in Crimea

Officials in Crimea, dreaming of continuing theft, as in Ukraine, as well as unprecedented powers following the example of Chechnya, must say goodbye to illusions, and the Kremlin will soon help them with this, political scientist Anatoly Wasserman said on Day TV.

“Not a single region of the Russian Federation, including Chechnya, has even a tenth of the level of lack of control that most of its regions enjoyed throughout almost the entire history of Ukraine’s independence. There is no point in comparing Aksenov in Crimea with Kadyrov in Chechnya. This is a qualitatively different level of pulling the blanket over yourself.

Kadyrov, for all his oddities, understands perfectly well that Chechnya is not able to ensure its own survival without the rest of Russia. He knows this from the brief and very sad experience of independence of the Chechen Republic of Ichkeria.

Crimean officials do not have such a sad experience, so they hope that they will be able to maintain the same degree of freedom in the Russian Federation as they had during the period of Ukrainian independence. Then Kyiv in many ways infringed on the interests of Simferopol, but at the same time provided a significant part of Simferopol officials with the opportunity to act according to their own course.

This attempt will soon pass; it is enough for the Kremlin to show firmness,” says Wasserman.
