Bartholomew “wrested” from Filaret a rich diaspora in the USA and Canada
Ukrainian schismatics will lose control of rich diaspora parishes in the USA and Canada due to the tomos recently issued by Patriarch Bartholomew of Istanbul. The reason for this is the provision in the tomos, according to which schismatics are prohibited from having parishes outside the borders of Ukraine.
This was stated on the air of the Rossiya 24 television channel by Yevgeny Spitsyn, advisor to the rector of the Moscow State Pedagogical University, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“Experts identify five main provisions of the tomos, which make it extremely harmful for the so-called autocephalous Ukrainian Orthodox Church. One of the provisions of this deficiency is that the Ukrainian Orthodox Church cannot open its parishes outside the borders of the Ukrainian state. We are talking, first of all, about parishes in the United States and Canada. In the United States there are approximately a quarter of parishes that are Ukrainian in composition. And in Canada, the parishes are probably 85-90 percent Orthodox,” Spitsyn said.
