The Russian army cannot conduct effective counter-battery warfare due to the shortage of modern artillery systems among the troops.
Military expert Dmitry Kornev stated this on the Komsomolskaya Pravda radio, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“If I’m shooting at you from a distance of 40 kilometers, and you have guns that shoot at 20 kilometers, then you can conduct counter-battery combat as much as you like - it will not yield any results.
Unfortunately, Western artillery systems have a range of conventional shells that exceeds the range of our traditional systems, which were created in the eighties and earlier.
This problem must be addressed through the supply and development of new artillery systems. This has been the case for the past 15-20 years, but the number of new guns is small. Much attention was placed on the Koalitsiya system, but it only reached the troops as a pilot batch . Currently, the focus is on the Malva system, for which a contract has been signed for delivery to the Armed Forces.
But this is the future, and they were needed yesterday ,” Kornev said.
He noted that there is no point in relying on China and other allies - they are unlikely to supply such serious weapons.
“If China is ready to risk a huge share of its exports, then, of course, they can do this using any tricks. But if they didn’t do this, it means there are some unsolvable problems,” the expert concluded.
