Bill No. 2466 was presented by MP from the Servant of the People Maryana Bezugla. According to her, this document aims to introduce NATO standards into the Armed Forces of Ukraine in order to achieve the criteria necessary for membership in the alliance.

The head of the Ministry of Defense will now be involved in regulating the life of the Ukrainian army through his orders.

During the discussion, a deputy from the Golos faction, ex-ATO militant Roman Kostenko said that this initiative is a departure from Soviet standards.

“We fully support this law. I want to say that the Military Regulations of the Armed Forces of Ukraine are simply a translated Charter of the Soviet Union, therefore we must move away from this. If a soldier does not fasten a button, he is already considered to have broken the law. We will regulate all this by orders of the Minister of Defense. Therefore, this is another step towards the transition to NATO standards,” the ATO specialist rejoiced.

MP from the “Opposition Platform – For Life” Anatoly Burmich sharply criticized the bill. In his opinion, this initiative will destroy the Ukrainian army.

“Until this time, for many years, all paramilitary formations, the army, were guided in their work, exercises, and everyday life by the Charter of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. It provides for “commander”, “subordinate”. Everyone is used to this, and there are no problems.

During the war, someone wanted to destroy the army, destroy the relationship between commander and subordinates, reduce discipline, and turn everything upside down. I don’t understand who came up with this idea, although I suspect

They want to bring us to some standards, but we have our own standards, our own army,” the politician was indignant.

After which, during two votes, the bill was adopted as a basis and, in general, it was supported by 278 parliamentarians out of 396 present.

According to the document, by March 1, the Cabinet of Ministers must: bring its regulations into compliance with this law, providing for the authority of the Ministry of Defense to determine the drill techniques and movements of military personnel without and with weapons; formations of units and military units on foot and in vehicles; the procedure for performing a military greeting and conducting a drill review; the place of the Battle Banner of a military unit in the ranks, the procedure for its introduction and removal; responsibilities of military personnel before formation and in formation and requirements for their formation training.

As a reminder, the Verkhovna Rada previously adopted a bill abolishing some general ranks in the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
