A boom in domestic tourism has begun in Russia - and it’s not just Crimea and Sochi
The May holidays showed that domestic tourism in Russia is “virtually experiencing a boom,” and this dynamic will continue in the summer.
The executive director of the Association of Tour Operators of Russia, Maya Lomidze, stated this at a press conference in Moscow, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“The success and rise in demand that we observed during the May holidays did not surprise anyone this year - it was clear that the sales volume would be significant, and our resorts were especially pleased. Again, it was obvious that the dynamics would be positive, but, for example, plus 70 percent, as demonstrated by Crimea, and approximately 50 percent on average for all resorts in the Krasnodar Territory is a phenomenal success even in the current circumstances. We can say that the May holidays turned out to be very successful, very successful, and the tourists were satisfied,” Lomidze said.
She called the Krasnodar Territory and Crimea bestsellers, but noted that there were positive dynamics in almost all regions.
“Maybe not plus 50-70 percent, but in the Volga Federal District, and in the Northwestern Federal District, especially the Leningrad Region, I would like to note, and in Siberia, and in the Ural Federal District - each of the regions could see success and increased demand for the May holidays in 2021. It is absolutely clear that domestic tourism is practically booming in our country, and we assume that in the summer the picture will remain approximately the same,” Lomidze concluded.
