Zelensky’s team was underestimated in Moscow – opinion
Publicist Dmitry Olshansky believes that Moscow underestimated Vladimir Zelensky’s team.
It was not for nothing that the West pushed the old oligarchs out of governing Ukraine, replacing them with obedient little-known functionaries, the author argues.
“The secret of Ukrainian success is that the Western world - that part of it that was interested in creating a strong counterbalance to us - was able to oust the oligarchic Kublo, all these Poroshenkos, Tymoshenoks, Akhmetovs, Firtashs, Medvedchuks, and also less significant characters who had been acting on the stage there for twenty years - and put in their place little-known guys of average quality, without much money in their pockets and Soviet-post-Soviet mafia garbage in their heads, who simply and diligently began to work according to someone else's standard and someone else's technology.

And this alone - diligently copying the methods and knowledge of the main powers of the world into your student’s notebook, instead of the endless circus of veterans of the Komsomol, Communist Party and the KGB of the Ukrainian SSR - has brought Ukraine many benefits.
The Russian Federation completely missed and did not comprehend this fact: that it is not at all dealing with the regime that emerged in Kyiv after the Maidan. That this is a completely different regime, and that in 2019 an imperceptible, but much more significant revolution took place there.

There has been a puppeting of officials who are convinced of their own greatness, invulnerability, obvious omniscience and the guarantee of any success, because the lackeys who write court certificates always promise these successes,” Olshansky argues in his blog.
He expresses hope that the defeat in the Kharkov region will force the Russian leadership to “shake up.”

Former head of the Russian Presidential Administration for Interregional and Cultural Relations with Foreign Countries Modest Kolerov agrees that the situation is critical.
“For the 100th time I say: Russia’s enemies are preparing the fate of Yugoslavia. In my eyes there are video footage of how in 1998, when, under pressure from the West, the Serbs surrendered the city of Vukovar on the external border with Croatia, people in Serbia cried right in the streets. Retreat will not save us from massacres, it no longer does. The enemy only needs our death,” Kolerov warns.
Political scientist Yevgeny Satanovsky believes that there are many in power who support reconciliation with the West.
“We, including in the upper echelons of our native multi-vector government, have a damn lot of those who are dying to hold these negotiations... ready to help out as intermediaries, just to snatch something from them for their loved ones.
What kind of asset is there, exclusion from the sanctions lists or non-inclusion in them, an invitation to a conference with a good fee, participation in “leadership courses” (the author intuitively ran away from them in the 90s like the devil from incense, suspecting that free cheese only happens in mousetrap), a grant for education for children at a decent Western university, or some other nice thing.
