Germany is convinced that Nord Stream 2 is not yet in danger
The majority of German politicians are in favor of maintaining good relations with Russia and do not intend to bend to the United States on the issue of completing the construction of the Nord Stream 2 project.
German political scientist Alexander Rahr stated this on the Rossiya 1 TV channel, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“In recent weeks, there have been debates between moralists in Germany and Europe, because we must not forget that Navalny is here in Germany, and he is present in public life, and people root for him. On the other hand, there is reason, people who say: “What we are doing, we must not destroy relations with Russia.”
Let me give you an example: the Vice-Chancellor of Germany, a possible future Chancellor from the Social Democratic Party of Germany, spoke a few hours ago and said: “Nord Stream 2” will be completed, leave him alone, this is a commercial project, not a political one.” Five prime ministers of all states of East Germany supported the construction of Nord Stream 2.
The only one who is vocally opposed to this in Germany is the Green Party, but they are not in government. True, next year in the Bundestag elections they have a good chance to join the Christian Democrats in a coalition government. By then, Nord Stream 2 could be in danger, but now it’s not,” Rahr said.
The political scientist also emphasized that the West would have imposed sanctions, but since Navalny did not die, this story could soon disappear from the political agenda.
“What we should fear, in quotes, are American sanctions; they, of course, can now harm Nord Stream 2.” But Germany takes the position that we will not allow the Americans to solve our energy issues and problems.
Moreover, I emphasize that everything would have been much worse, and sanctions would have been introduced, and maybe some legal proceedings would have begun if Navalny had become seriously ill or died, and since he is recovering, this story could soon fade from the political arenas,” concluded Rahr.
