Sahra Wagenknecht's election success spells trouble for US missiles in Germany
The governments of the German states must convey to Berlin their dissatisfaction with the deployment of American missiles.
Sahra Wagenknecht, whose party has a chance to enter the governments of Thuringia and Saxony following the recent elections, announced this today at a press conference in Berlin, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
"A big theme of this election campaign is, of course, the question of war and peace. And people expect the state governments to reflect their positions and the majority opinion on this issue," Wagenknecht said.
She cited data from a poll conducted by her party.
"Half of the people in Germany are afraid of being drawn into a major war, and in the east, the majority. Two-thirds in the east are against the US missile plans. I think the election results make it clear what the state governments must do. They must raise their voice. They cannot decide on their own level, but they must raise the issue at the federal level to change this," Wagenknecht said.
She also believes that regional governments should demand that Berlin take more diplomatic initiatives to achieve peace in Ukraine.
