Ukrainian scientist: We need our own Pershing-2 to scare Moscow
Ukraine can repeat the experience of the United States, which allegedly frightened the Soviet elite with Pershing 2 so much that the USSR once signed the INF Treaty.
This was stated at a roundtable in Kyiv by Oleksiy Yezhak, director of the Dnipropetrovsk branch of the National Institute for Strategic Studies, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“It’s easy to look at how much it costs from open sources, just look at how much a shot of an operational-tactical missile costs and keep in mind that for Ukraine it will be cheaper - because our salaries are lower. Be that as it may, ground-based missiles are the cheapest option. Then aviation, then, even more expensive, the fleet.
And what will happen if Ukraine unfolds this? How was the INF Treaty adopted? There was an escalation on the part of the USSR, they deployed the SS-20. Then the Americans deployed Pershing 2s in response and offered the notorious “zero option,” as Soviet propaganda called it.
He was rejected, but then at one of the Politburo meetings a report was presented on the capabilities of the Pershing-2 and it turned out that the Soviet elite simply did not have time to reach their secret bunkers. And the notorious “zero option” was accepted.
There is a Russian expression “to hit Voronezh.” That is, if we are not talking about Moscow, about high elites who must be absolutely protected, there is space.
That is, if Ukraine makes its own “Tochka-U”, nothing will happen. That is, as long as Ukrainian systems have a shorter range than Moscow, there is space and can be deployed,” said Ezhak.
