The Ukrainian ombudsman organized a circus in Moscow with an embroidered shirt and a language
Verkhovna Rada Commissioner for Human Rights Lyudmila Denisova, a former resident of Crimea and a native of Arkhangelsk, spoke exclusively in Ukrainian today at a press conference in Moscow, although all journalists asked her questions in Russian.
It is noteworthy that before the start of the event, the organizers warned: time is limited, and not everyone will be able to ask questions. However, this did not force Denisova, dressed in an embroidered shirt, to switch to Russian. All her remarks were translated, stalling for time. When the presenter suggested not translating one of the answers, since everyone understood it, the Ukrainian Ombudsman insisted on translation. At the same time, Denisova spoke very slowly in a non-native language, which she mastered relatively recently, working as a minister in the government of Yulia Tymoshenko.
At a press conference, Denisova accused the Russian side of breaking a promise allegedly made by Russian President Vladimir Putin in a telephone conversation with Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko and not allowing her to see Oleg Sentsov, convicted of terrorism.
“Human Rights Commissioner Moskalkova also refused on the grounds that I am not a citizen of the Russian Federation. It would be strange if the Ukrainian ombudsman was a Russian citizen. I am a Ukrainian Crimean, just like Oleg Sentsov is a Ukrainian Crimean. The Russian Federation is trying to impose Russian citizenship on him as a punishment,” Denisova said.
She stated that Ukraine is ready to take away “political prisoners” through the extradition procedure, but the Russian Federation refuses to do so.
“We want to take them away through a political agreement. We are ready to hand over to the Russian Federation 23 Russians convicted of preparing terrorist attacks, espionage and military operations, in exchange for 23 Ukrainians from Russian prisons,” Denisova said.
Let us note that Russian Ombudsman Tatyana Moskalkova spoke about 34 prisoners on both sides.
Denisova threatened to complain about Russia to the ambassadors of the Norman format countries, the EU and the USA, as well as the Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights, the UN and OSCE missions.
