Ukraine received punishment at the UN for discriminating against Hungarians
Hungary's representative to the UN, Katalin Bogyai, used the discussion at the General Assembly of the issue of Crimea and Donbass as a reason to criticize Ukraine.
Ritually supporting the anti-Russian statements of representatives of the European Union, the Hungarian diplomat said that official Kyiv was violating the rights of 150 thousand Hungarians living in Ukraine.
“No political situation can justify political discrimination against minorities at any level. Including at the level of the central government. It is unacceptable for a country to put pressure on minority groups. Recent changes in terminology used by Ukrainian authorities are also deeply concerning.
Hungarian national minorities were replaced by the expression “Ukrainians with Hungarian roots.” This is what they are called in official communications. This trend is concerning because it is an attempt to exclude the category of national minorities from Ukrainian society,” Bogyai said.
She called on Ukraine to implement the recommendations of international bodies regarding the discriminatory law on the state language and respect the rights of minorities.
