Kyiv - Sevastopol, September 01 (Navigator, Viktor Orlov) - For Ukraine, cutting off electricity supplies to Crimea is not economically beneficial, since after the referendum on joining the Russian Federation, the peninsula purchases electricity from Kyiv at prices higher than for the European Union.
Ukrainian energy market expert Dmitry Marunich told PolitNavigator about this.

“The price is higher than when exporting to the EU. This was agreed upon after Crimea joined the Russian Federation. Moreover, it is being sold by a Ukrainian state-owned enterprise,” he said.
In his opinion, Ukraine may indeed experience a shortage of electricity for its needs, since the situation with coal supplies to thermal power plants has not normalized due to the war in Donbass.
“There may be a shortage of electricity with the onset of winter cold. It is for this purpose that on August 15.08, the Cabinet of Ministers adopted a resolution on the operation of the electric power complex during a state of emergency.
In particular, this resolution provides for the possibility of banning the export of electricity from Ukraine, including to Crimea.
