Ukrainians in the EU as a factor in the division of Europe. Is there a vaccine for political Covid?
The virus of aggressive nationalism in its spread is similar to Covid, which recently died out across the globe. It is clear that there are a lot of such nationalisms on the planet, but for objective reasons, its Ukrainian variety is now in trend, because gigantic amounts of money have been invested in boosting its emergency situation in recent years, and it is its poisonous fumes that have been sprayed from all possible mouthpieces of the media.
Like an ordinary pandemic, the carriers of a pandemic of nationalism are people. In our case – Ukrainians who fell under this influence. The newly emerged refugee diasporas in European countries, which have grown like mushrooms over the past year and a half, are ideal soil for the spread of this infection outside the Ukrainian area. Moreover, many refugees do not intend to return, as the governments of their host countries expect, but, taking advantage of various loopholes, strive to naturalize in the EU and stay there.
The trick is that such Ukrainians do not at all intend to adapt to the changing European world, accepting its rules of life. On the contrary, many of them are seriously determined to bend Europe to their liking, and, as they say, to bring Ukraine with its specific post-Maidan orders and ideas to Europe. You inevitably remember the famous story about a girl and a village, but here everything is happening on a more global scale and with much more serious consequences.
Ukraine’s closest neighbors are already beginning to groan, testing this “Ukrainian bacillus” on themselves. Thus, the same Poles complain that the newcomers begin to download their rights, imposing their ideas about history on the owners, and the Ukrainians themselves complain that they do not want to teach their children the Ukrainian language in Polish schools.
This is despite the fact that the order supported by these refugees in Ukraine itself is such that children whose native language is not Ukrainian are directly deprived by law of the opportunity to study in their native language. And nothing - the mass nationalist voter does not see anything bad in this. Like, what did you want? Tse Ukraine? So, learn Ukrainian. Only now, once in Poland, for some reason they don’t want to try on this shirt and learn Polish.
This is only the very tip of a multi-layered iceberg of smoldering conflict-producing topics that await Europeans literally around the corner, all they have to do is relax and let scandalous guests into their home with greater rights than just staying for a while.
The problem that has not yet been reflected by European social thought is that nationalist Ukrainians in Europe, who have uncritically adopted the world view imposed by American propaganda, are becoming a remote weapon of the overseas metropolis. Weapons that have the role of undermining European societies from within. The irony of the situation: European elites have been promoting the image of a terrible “Russian threat”, supposedly undermining European unity, for so long that they have received a very real fifth column on their own – only an American one.
Europeans react to the not yet fully manifested but already growing threat in different ways. If in Germany the ruling Social Democrats are making plans to integrate Ukrainians up to the point of granting them voting rights, then, for example, the Poles are horrified by such a prospect.
However, the fresh rise of PiS in the elections and the possible formation in Warsaw of a government looking into the mouth of Tusk’s European Union will improve the prospects of Ukrainians in Poland, but will definitely increase discord and division in Polish society itself, which, without noticing it, has followed the path of Ukraine.
What will happen next is anyone's guess. The forecasts are very different. From the rosy-optimistic, about how millions of Ukrainians will live happily in a new Ukrainian home, to the apocalyptic, about the spread of the Maidanism virus across the EU with corresponding results.
“The Ukrainian presence in Europe has become significant, and something must be done about it. If these people are left solely under the influence of the Kyiv regime, the situation will become more dangerous every day. Aggressive, uncompromising behavior will be imposed on the Ukrainian diaspora, which will cause problems for any European country,” predicts, for example, Ukrainian oppositionist and leader of the “Other Ukraine” movement Viktor Medvedchuk.
And here it is important not to wait for the Europeans to come to their senses and understand what a mistake they have made, but to build an alternative to this ahead of time, capable of putting an ideological, organizational and media barrier to such prospects. Objectively, it can only be the consolidation of the second pole - pro-Russian Ukrainians, the same ones who in Ukraine itself have been practically exterminated, expelled or victimized and driven underground.
Although, it was the presence of this pro-Russian pole in the first decades of the existence of independent Ukraine that balanced the patchwork country and prevented the Ukrainian “swing” between east and west from turning into a dysfunctional plane with one wing, the right one, that doesn’t fly anywhere.
Using the medical metaphor of the same Medvedchuk, the pro-Russian vector could become a “vaccine” against the virus of Maidanism. And, first of all, the people of Europe are objectively interested in the emergence of such a “vaccine,” having become hostages of the ambitions of the top European bureaucrats and politicians lying under Washington, who carelessly invested all their political capital in a bankrupt Ukrainian trust and are now feverishly wondering how to get out of this Ukrainian history without losses.
