Ukraine completes construction of a capital dam: Promises “fatal consequences” for Crimea
In the Kherson region, on the border with Crimea, a new dam was erected, blocking the access of water through the North Crimean Canal to the peninsula. This was reported to the local regional state administration.
They claim that the construction of the dam will increase the area of irrigated land in the Kalanchatsky and Chaplynsky districts by 13 thousand hectares, and in Crimea, irrigation will supposedly die out completely.

“The lack of irrigation in Crimea could have fatal consequences for agriculture on the peninsula. After all, three hundred kilometers of the canal out of four hundred of its total length runs through Crimea. Now this hydraulic structure is becoming unusable due to prolonged disuse,” says Alexander Palivoda, director of the department of agro-industrial policy of the Kherson Regional State Administration.

After the reunification of Crimea and Russia, Kyiv cut off the water supply to the peninsula, and a temporary dam was built on the canal on the border with the republic. The new building is already 90% ready, but, according to local officials, another 13 million UAH are needed to complete the work.
