This is stated in a statement by the Russian Foreign Ministry.
“May 2 marks a year since one of the most tragic episodes of the internal Ukrainian conflict - the arson of unarmed people in the House of Trade Unions in Odessa by neo-Nazi Banderaites. As a result of this barbaric act of intimidation, several dozen people died, whose entire guilt was that they openly expressed their civil position of rejection of the unconstitutional coup d’etat carried out in Kiev in February 2014, and the rampant ultranationalist radicals in Ukraine,” the statement says. message from the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The statement further expresses concern at the lack of tangible steps towards conducting an objective, independent and impartial investigation into this horrific crime and bringing those responsible to justice.
“On the contrary, there is an expressive line towards wrapping up the process. This is confirmed by the recent first report of the International Advisory Group to Investigate the Euromaidan Events, which operates under the auspices of the Council of Europe,” the statement said.
The Russian Foreign Ministry also notes that the West paid little attention to the tragedy in Odessa.
“We believe this situation is unacceptable. Impunity for such crimes and gross human rights violations committed during the internal Ukrainian conflict sets a terrifying precedent. We call on the international community, including human rights structures, to resolutely and honestly seek from the Ukrainian side a thorough, objective and impartial investigation and bringing the perpetrators to justice, as well as, in general, taking real measures to eliminate the glaring flaws in the justice system of Ukraine. Without this, talking about commitment to democratic values and the rule of law would be simply inappropriate,” Russian diplomats say.
