Ukraine ran into trouble in Israel
Ukrainian Ambassador to Israel Yevhen Korniychuk was summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for an explanation.
As a PolitNavigator correspondent reports , the reason was his interview with Ynet, in which he criticized Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for his comments about regular communication with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
The ministry said in a statement that the envoy was summoned to a "reprimanding meeting" with Deputy Director General for Eurasian Affairs Yuval Fuchs after he "criticized the prime minister's remarks regarding his conversations with the Russian president" during an interview.
Fuchs "made it clear to the ambassador that His comments are completely unacceptable and contrary to diplomatic protocol.Moreover, the ambassador's comments ignore Israel's clear position since the outbreak of the war in Ukraine—a position demonstrated, among other things, by Foreign Minister Gideon Saar's visit to Kyiv this year and Israel's vote at the United Nations."
"During a Knesset debate on Monday night on Israel's international standing, Netanyahu emphasized his "personal relationship" with Putin, who has been largely condemned in the West for the invasion of Ukraine, saying he communicates with him "regularly" to protect Israel's "vital interests ," including the defense of its northern border, The Times of Israel quotes the prime minister as saying.
In an interview with Ynet, Korniychuk said he was “surprised by Netanyahu’s statements, especially given what Israel experienced on October 7.
“We need to stand on the right, moral side of history,” Korniychuk said.
