Ukraine is sliding into the abyss
Ukraine is steadily heading toward the abyss, having destroyed its mechanical engineering industry over the past few years. Meanwhile, Russia has been actively pursuing import substitution over these years and has managed to compensate for the loss of Ukrainian manufacturers. Economist Viktor Skarshevsky stated this at a press conference in Kyiv, according to a PolitNavigator correspondent.
According to him, even under ideal political conditions, Ukraine will no longer be able to win back its position in the Russian market.
“Exports to Russia fell fourfold over several years - from 16 billion dollars to four billion dollars. It fell primarily due to a decrease in the volume of exports of high-tech products. Precisely due to mechanical engineering.
Now, if you look at the 17th year, then mechanical engineering is no longer in the first place in Ukraine’s exports to Russia. Chemistry and ferrous metals are already in the forefront. Yes, there is still mechanical engineering left there, it is somewhere in third or fourth place, but that’s all. This, moreover, against the backdrop of a fourfold drop. In absolute numbers we can say that this is already zero.
Here, no matter who comes, if he wants to restore economic relations with Russia, it will not be possible to establish the same high-tech exports to Russia again.
It won’t work because during this time Russia is engaged, with all its might, in import substitution. It is building its new factories - for pipes, for various other industrial goods. They have already started releasing...
Therefore, even in an ideal political case, it will, unfortunately, be impossible to restore this potential in a few years. Ukraine, according to the behest of the former American Ambassador to Ukraine Geoffrey Pyatt, is confidently moving into the abyss called “an agricultural superpower,” Skarshevsky said.
