Makeevka, August 14 (Navigator, Mikhail Shalyapin) – Non-perishable products, hygiene products, stationery and medicines were delivered to the Makeevka Society of the Blind by members of the parliament of Novorossiya Oksana Bevtsyk and Rustam Abdulaev.

There are 149 people registered in this society. People with first and second groups of visual impairment work here. “Even though we are blind, we allow people to see the light,” says Igor Gobzhila, chairman of the Makeevka Society of the Blind. – Previously, we worked under government orders, mainly producing sockets for electric lamps. The company employed more than 600 people. And now there are only 32 left in the workshop. We work for a private owner who provides orders.”

Salaries at the enterprise are low - from 250 to 600 hryvnia per month, but neither this money nor the disability pension have been paid for three months now. The workshops and offices of the Makeevka Society of the Blind are located in a building built in 1971. None of the people working here remembers that any repairs were ever carried out there. The workshop premises are dilapidated, the walls are crumbling, and the roof is leaking, although there are machines nearby that operate on electricity. In the first aid kit, which every enterprise should have, there are three or four bottles of dried greenery and iodine. The building looks abandoned and uninhabited. But, in spite of everything, people create their own special atmosphere and do not lose courage.

They go to and from work along long-learned routes. But today, in conditions of war, they have to learn a new road step by step - to the bomb shelter, which is in the courtyard of the enterprise.

“The Kyiv leaders set out to harass us, the residents of Donbass. But we are sure that nothing will come of it for them. And we hope that the war will end soon. If Ukraine is so democratic, then it must accept the will of our people expressed on May 11. I know that even those people who had not gone to polling stations since the 80s went to this referendum,” said Igor Gobzhila.

Society employee Irina was more categorical: “I believe that schizophrenics are in power in Kyiv. If we cannot see with our eyes, then the Kyiv authorities and those who came to our land to destroy the civilian population have long since lost their souls.”
