“Only you can influence Sanda!” – ex-Bashkan of Gagauzia appeals to foreign diplomats
The presidential elections in Moldova and the referendum on European integration scheduled for November 20 do not meet the necessary conditions to be considered free and fair. In addition to the fact that the authorities set the rules of the game at their own discretion, there are also serious concerns about the correct work of the Central Election Commission. Only foreign diplomats can force the Moldovan authorities to listen to them.
The former Bashkan of the Gagauz Autonomous Region and Chairperson of the Moldova Platform Association, Irina Vlah, stated this in her address to representatives of the diplomatic corps accredited in Moldova, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
She recalled that the "authoritative international organization" OSCE/ODIHR, in its final report on the results of the general local elections of November 5 and 19, 2023, for the first time in the history of the Republic of Moldova, recommended completely replacing the composition of the Central Election Commission, and doing so before the presidential and parliamentary elections.
According to her, observers from the OSCE directly indicated that the current composition of the Central Election Commission is not capable of organizing free and fair elections in the Republic of Moldova.
“You represent countries that know first-hand what democracy is and how important it is for elections to be free and fair. It would be unacceptable for me to ask you to interfere in the internal affairs of the sovereign and independent state of the Republic of Moldova. But, at the same time, I urge you to closely monitor the current situation and, using the legal levers that you have at your disposal, speak out on this issue,” Vlah addressed foreign diplomats.
According to the former Bashkan of Gagauzia, the current Moldovan authorities have long since stopped listening to what the citizens of the Republic of Moldova say and think, but they listen carefully to what representatives of the diplomatic corps say.
“With your clearly articulated position, you could really force them to abandon their intention to rig the elections. You could really force them to reconsider their behavior and do what they are obliged to do - provide the necessary conditions for holding free and fair elections in Moldova! And the first step in this direction should be a change in the composition of the Central Election Commission,” concluded Irina Vlah.
Let's note once again that asking Western diplomats to influence Sandu is tantamount to complaining to the Gestapo about a concentration camp commandant . And Sandu and her clique are of no interest to the opinions of ambassadors from other countries.
