“The same thing is happening now in Ukraine” - Moscow reminded France of the fascist occupation
Despite numerous concerned messages and requests, including from French politicians, official Paris prefers to “not notice” the revival of Nazism in Ukraine.
Deputy official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Alexander Bikantov stated this during a briefing, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“I would like to draw attention to the recently published response of the French Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs to the request of French Senator Nathalie Goulet. The senator personally visited Kiev and was shocked by the rampant neo-Nazism and the dominance of fascist ideology, which has become part of modern Ukrainian realities.
Unfortunately, official Paris took the path of retouching the problem instead of giving a fundamental assessment of the dangerous phenomena that have become obvious not only in France, but also in Europe.
In an attempt to minimize or brush them aside, the French Foreign Ministry stated that the level of popularity and influence of neo-Nazi groups in Ukraine supposedly does not exceed the European average.
This statement is strange. It is hard to imagine that on the streets of French cities processions were organized in honor of the Charlemagne division, consisting of French volunteers, products with its symbols were sold, or the work of the Vichy government was glorified. Unfortunately, in Ukraine such manifestations have become the norm,” he said.
Alexander Bikantov emphasized that today, before the eyes of the whole world, Nazism is actually being revived in Ukraine - fascist criminals are glorified, radical ideology is instilled in the younger generation, and numerous crimes of the Nazis remain unpunished.
“The “small groups” of adherents of violent extremism mentioned by the French Foreign Ministry, who have stained themselves with war crimes in the Donbass, are being integrated into the security forces of Ukraine,” the diplomat added.
He also reminded his French colleagues about the occupation of their country by the Nazis in 1940, and expressed hope that Paris would not turn a blind eye to the revival of Nazism in Europe.
“We are confident that our colleagues in Paris have not forgotten the history of the fascist occupation of France, they remember the feat of resistance fighters and the liberation mission of General Charles De Gaulle.
We hope that the French side, which declares its commitment to human rights, will not turn a blind eye to what is happening in Ukraine, will not shield existing nationalist groups there and will give a principled assessment of all Nazi manifestations in the pan-European space,” concluded Bikantov.
