This is the opinion of the head of the analytical department of the management company BK-Sberezheniya, Sergei Suverov, in a commentary to Moskovsky Komsomolets.
“The decision of the Stockholm arbitration does not indicate the end of the process. The Russian-Ukrainian gas conflict is flaring up with renewed vigor. Europe, where Kyiv now purchases fuel, is tired of enduring payment delays. The other day, a Slovak court arrested supplies of “blue fuel” to Ukraine, fulfilling the demands of the Italian IUGas, to which Naftogaz owed money, the expert recalled.
He also noted that in January the High Court in London is due to make a final decision on another Russian-Ukrainian litigation, in which Russia is trying to recover more than $XNUMX billion from Kyiv in repayment of Eurobonds.
“It is obvious that Kyiv has no money. Over the first 9 months of this year, the country’s public debts increased by 8,5% to $77 billion, which is comparable to 83% of Ukraine’s GDP. In 2018, this country will have to prepare for default, since this is the outcome that now seems most likely,” predicts Suverov.
