Russia supposedly has very poor military prospects in the event of an offensive by the Armed Forces of Ukraine on the Donbass republics.

This was stated by Eldar Khasanov, former chief of staff of the Slavic Brigade and the Ministry of Defense of the DPR in 2014, in response to a question about whether he plans to go to the LPR and DPR to assist in the event of an offensive by the Ukrainian Armed Forces, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

"No. I myself am not going to go, and I will not call on my supporters to do so. I have this opinion: even if a war starts, we have very bad prospects from the point of view of the fact that the people no longer believe in anything.

I’m not a pacifist and I think that the Ukrainians should have been crushed back then, in 2014, in full, but at the same time I understand how unhealthy a war can go now. The Ukrainians were given seven years to strengthen themselves, to raise their army, so that the West could fully integrate into this project. So what miracle are we expecting now from those who have already gone there once?” Khasanov told Moskovsky Komsomolets.

True, he stipulates that “this anti-Russian project must be ended somehow.”

“But when hotheads discuss the need to reach Lvov, Kiev and remove the anti-people regime in Ukraine... I haven’t seen anyone preparing for this for seven years. Unfortunately, the Russian World never happened. If you look at what is happening in the DPR and LPR today, this is survival. The war will change little for these republics,” says the former militia member.

According to him, the Ukrainian army has changed a lot and learned a lot.

“They are also supplied with quite good weapons from the other side. Our respected partners have a very great desire to inflict the same defeat in the Ukrainian theater of operations as was the case in Karabakh. The modern weapons that the Turks supplied to Azerbaijan are now being given to Ukraine. And I can’t imagine how you can cope with all this when you need to oppose on a larger scale both electronic warfare systems and ultra-modern air defense systems,” says Khasanov.

He notes that Russia will have to intervene in order not to prevent the defeat of the LDPR, but adds that “it is very profitable and convenient for the collective West to try to deal with us in this very theater of military operations.”

It's worth noting that Igor Girkin (Strelkov), Khasanov's former commander and head of the DPR Defense Ministry for three months, regularly makes similarly dire predictions . Since his resignation in August 2014, he has tirelessly prophesied the "failure" of Donbas, the destruction of the republics, the dismemberment of Russia, and its defeat in Syria. However, none of his predictions have come true.
