Social studies document the gap between Donbass and Ukraine

Kyiv, February 20 (PolitNavigator, Vladimir Raichenko) – Even if Kyiv manages to take control of the rebellious Donbass, the antagonism between this region and the rest of Ukraine will not disappear.

Elena Zakharova, a member of the board of the International Center for Advanced Studies (ICAS), voiced this opinion during a discussion in Kyiv about the standards of Ukrainian journalism in wartime, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.

According to the expert, the positive trend of the current moment for Ukraine is that, according to social research, the positions of all regions of Ukraine are beginning to coincide.

“A negative trend is that the gap between this part of Ukraine and Donbass is growing,” points out Elena Zakharova. – There has been a polarization, a split along the line “the entire territory of Ukraine - Donbass.” If we imagine a fantastic scenario where Putin withdraws Russian troops from Donbass, and Ukraine establishes control over this territory and the eastern border, then the question still arises: what to do with the population? The problem will not go away. And we can solve the problem of polarization and divergence of views for many years to come.”
