News about the funerals of participants in the punitive operation against the LDPR have become commonplace, and after seven years of civil war it is quite difficult to surprise with them.
However, the recent funeral of one of the “warriors of light”, which was solemnly held at the Zaporozhye regional administration, or rather the biography of the deceased, once again raised the question of the prospects existing for the younger generation of Ukrainians.
The square in front of the Zaporozhye Regional State Administration has long been turned into one large funeral home, from where mainly those who voluntarily went to the front line to kill their fellow citizens are sent on their last journey. However, official comments regarding this latest funeral event attracted attention. So, the deceased was a native of Zaporozhye, Denis German, a soldier of the 74th separate reconnaissance battalion. He would have turned 32 in September. He volunteered to serve in January 2020. He did not start a family, because, according to his mother, in such a difficult time for the country he was obliged to be at the front.
Is it so? Is the reason for his participation in the punitive operation really the “patriotic” impulse that his mother speaks of today? Or, having not found himself in life, having a master’s degree in law from a Zaporozhye university, he simply turned out to be a stranger in this world and was unable to realize himself?
In the current realities, when unemployment is growing in Zaporozhye, and residents, having several higher educations, go to Poland en masse, there is another way to make money - to go kill in the Donbass! The salary by Ukrainian standards is stable and tolerable, with a package of social benefits and the opportunity to create a career in law enforcement agencies, because an “ATO veteran” has clear advantages over a recent graduate of any military educational institution.
Today, few people write about this, but social elevators have been completely destroyed in Ukraine. If, in the wake of the Maidan, it was possible to get out of the lower social strata and, disowning the memory of our ancestors, publicly whitewashing the collaborators of the Great Patriotic War, and take some position under the administration, today even this will not take anyone - all the niches are occupied.
A lot has been written about social elevators. However, if you look at the process from a bird’s eye view, you must admit that the main condition for their existence is economic growth, as well as the growth of the state body, with all its components, from departments and departments to enterprises and social institutions. And in some cases, geographic growth.
Accordingly, in the case of Ukraine, we are observing the opposite process: geographical reduction, massive staff reductions at enterprises, nepotism, due to which it is impossible to occupy leadership positions in government agencies, and the absence of new structures. We won’t write about the economy at all - everything is already obvious.
For comparison, we can recall the thirties of the last century. It was then that a massive construction boom began in our country, and in Ukraine in particular: new factories were created, hospitals, kindergartens, schools and universities were built. With the help of rails, entire multi-story buildings with residents sleeping in them moved... The children of downtrodden peasants became in demand. The enterprises required young and energetic personnel. Thus, any person had the opportunity to achieve a good social position, relying only on his intelligence, strength, resourcefulness and, most importantly, efficiency.
This period in the history of our country will forever remain an example not only for residents of the fifteen former republics of the USSR, but also for the whole world, no matter how hard they try to distort and discredit it.
Today, young people do not have the opportunity to realize themselves in the creative sphere. In Ukraine, if you are a mechanic, you are a loser. If you are a welder, you are a failure. And if, God forbid, you are a plumber, then no one will marry you at all. This is the reality of today's Ukraine. And the problem is not only in low salaries, but also in social attitudes: for some reason, a drunk veteran returning from the ATO with a grenade in his pocket is considered cooler than an intelligent mathematics teacher. Maybe because selling machine guns, diesel fuel and ammunition is more profitable than teaching children differentials?
That is why the majority of contract volunteers go to fight. Not at all out of patriotic feelings, but in pursuit of the hryvnia and the opportunities that the Ukrainian government provides such people. True, few people think about the fact that you can get a bullet in the forehead at the moment of signing a contract. But in vain. If they had thought about it, they would have remained alive.
