"Big loss. Professor Ivan Vakarchuk left us. A great man, one who knew how to change life for the better. For me, my favorite rector of Alma mater, the Minister of Education, with whom I had the honor of collaborating, changing this industry,” wrote Vyatrovich.

Later the news was confirmed by Svyatoslav Vakarchuk.

Ivan Vakarchuk headed the Ministry of Education of Ukraine under President Viktor Yushchenko from 2007 to 2010, and from 2010 to 2013 he was the rector of Lviv State University. Ivan Franko.

“We were the “Lviv landing”, which undertook to change the country during the second attempt of the “orange”. Ivan Aleksandrovich became the Minister of Education, my wife Yarina became the head of his staff, I agreed to head the SBU archive. The work and level of responsibility were different, the desire to change the industries they took on was identical,” Vyatrovich wrote in an article published in the Ukrainian Literary Newspaper.

“He knew how to win and continue the fight after defeat,” recalls the former head of the Institute of National Memory. – In 2010, after Yanukovych came to power, we both lost our positions. Ivan Alexandrovich returned to Lvov. Unlike many of my colleagues, he did not disown me, at that time a “politically unreliable” historian.”

In addition, he noted that he participated together with Ivan Vakarchuk in the implementation of a joint project - an electronic archive of the Bandera movement.

“The project was a challenge to two officials of that time: Vakarchuk’s successor as Minister of Education, Tabachnik, and the head of the SBU, Khoroshkovsky. But we implemented it by posting online in free access thousands of previously secret KGB documents, which the new government again tried to hide and even prosecuted for this,” the deputy added.

“Then there was Euromaidan, the Ukrainian Institute of National Memory. His advice helped to avoid distortions, not stop and move forward. I remember them and will continue to try to bring them to life,” Vyatrovich promised.

According to the Ukrainian Catholic University, a memorial service for Vakarchuk will be held today, April 6, in the Greek Catholic church.
