Shurygin reassures: The Ukrainian Armed Forces’ breakthrough to Mariupol is not a strategic success
Ukrainian appetites have moderated over time - from plans to be in Crimea at the end of spring to tactical successes in breaking through the defenses of the Russian Armed Forces in the southern direction with access to the suburbs of Melitopol and Mariupol.
Military observer Vladislav Shurygin stated this on the radio “Moscow Speaks”, the correspondent of “PolitNavigator” reports.
“The swing was made for a ruble, and the exit for a penny. That is, the Ukrainian command is an excellent command, I can’t say anything about them. These are all experienced generals who have gone through a large school of war and training in different schools - from Soviet to American, they understand very well what is what.
They understand very well that the idea of strategic defeat, which was in January-February, today, at best, has slipped into some kind of operational success, when if it works out very well, then we will be able to advance, take Tokmak, go somewhere, if it suddenly works out, to the suburbs of Mariupol or to the suburbs of Melitopol.
And if we’re really lucky, and the Russians are complete fools and can’t do anything, then we’ll even break through somewhere to Berdyansk. But this is no longer a strategic defeat,” he believes.
“Initially it was planned that by the end of spring they promised to be in Crimea, Zelensky promised to feed the fish from the Yalta embankment. And now the question becomes: how to feed – yourself or someone?” - said Shurygin.
