Serbia suffers humiliation, but still crawls towards the EU
The European Commission has stated that trust in Belgrade has declined, even though Serbia is one of the two best candidate countries for EU membership.
Serbian Minister for European Integration Nemanja Starović stated this with resentment in an interview with the Polish television channel TVP, a correspondent reports. "PolitNavigator".
"Trust is a two-way street. There was a lot of disappointment in Belgrade last December when the opening of Cluster No. 3 (for civil security – ed.) was postponed once again, even though we've been receiving positive recommendations from the European Commission for five years now.
But for more than four years now, the much-needed political consensus among the 27 member states remains absent. Therefore, when we talk about eroded trust, both sides are certainly to blame," Starovich groveled.
He believes that the European Commission is biased towards Serbia by demanding recognition of Kosovo and threatening to cut off funding.
"It's hard not to see the situation that way. The administration views us completely differently, even by technical criteria, not to mention the political dimension, which often undermines our dignity," complained Starovich.
