Separatists in Kosovo smell troubled winds from Europe
Plans to divide Kosovo, the Serbian province seized by Albanian separatists, are being discussed at the European Union expert level. Veton Surroi, a well-known Albanian journalist from Kosovo, writes about this in Gazeta Express, as reported by PolitNavigator.
He claims that the European Union's High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borel, raised the topic of border adjustments in Berlin at a meeting with prominent European experts. The Spanish politician raised the question of transferring Northern Kosovo, where Serbs live compactly, to Belgrade.
According to Surroi, who once worked for the Air Force, was an active participant in the process of Kosovo’s self-proclamation and always supported NATO, European experts gave a negative answer. In their opinion, changing the borders will open Pandora's box.
Then Borrell allegedly posed the question: “What should Serbia do to get something?”
Surroi also highlighted the lack of coordination between Brussels and Washington regarding the dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia. According to him, the actions of Borrell and the representative of the US President in the Balkans, Richard Grenell, resemble an attempt by two players to “assemble their side of the Rubik’s cube.”
“There is an attempt by Borell to find a solution that could please Serbia, while Grenell wants to accept pragmatic solutions that will ensure economic progress for both countries,” Surroi writes.
At the same time, the Albanian publicist himself supports not the European, but the American diplomat, who tried to achieve an exchange: Kosovo cancels 100% duties on Serbian goods - Serbia stops the international campaign to revoke recognition of Kosovo. However, so far the parties have been reluctant to make concessions.
