The freest slaves of Mordor
There is a question that worries many. And it is asked regularly, when another fighter against the regime suddenly plays a kind of hug with this regime. The latter is usually expressed in generous subsidies and salaries. And, having received ill-gotten money, the fighters continue to blaspheme the damned regime.
Everything, it would seem, is according to Pelevin: “Why feed those who already love their Motherland? It’s more profitable to feed those who don’t like it.” Why would it seem? Yes, because love for the Motherland does not increase.
Perhaps there is now progress in this direction. The other day, the Moscow mayor's office decided not to renew the contract with the scandalous and talented director Kirill Serebrennikov as artistic director of the Gogol Center. At first, information was received that Kirill Semyonovich, in principle, would not be in the theater - but later it turned out that he would still work, but only as an invited unit.
The light-faced ones are screaming about oppression, but the trouble is probably that Serebrennikov was recently convicted of embezzlement.
And then the artistic heroes went in a heap. In particular, Belarusian actress Alexandra Bortich was noted. Now she can act in films without the participation of government agencies and government funding. To put it simply, it is quite possible that the actress, who has recently appeared very often in Russian cinema, will be completely removed from working in films for which the state has allocated funds. And the trick is that Bortich too actively supported Belomaidan. And at the same time she spoke out against the “Kremlin occupation”.
All these are, as they say, the first signs that may indicate changes. However, another option is also possible: when it remains as it was, and haters of the regime will continue to fatten at its expense. But…
The problem, in fact, is not financial. The point is in principles. It is strange and even wild when people who hate the hand receive colossal money from this giving hand, while others live very modestly.
So if we are talking about justice as a national idea, then, excuse me, where is it? For what merits are our artists elevated to a privileged class? Let’s be honest, they irritate people so much – well, they should keep their mouth shut, but no! These artistic gentlemen and ladies also need to show off: they say, we will separate ourselves from the rest, from the mob, and show how conscious we are, we are here for a free Russia, and you are slaves! So why should slaves suffer? It’s strange when free people are so unfree that they take money from the damned exploiters with all their might. We should help the gentlemen by unhooking them from the damned regime.
Perhaps this will happen. But there is a risk that instead of these - free and greedy - they will recruit others. Nothing better. It’s not a problem for Serebrennikov and Bortich that the state is too fond of feeding those who are diligently destroying this state. Such generosity and for good deeds. But... here we turn back to the beginning - to Pelevin’s question. Sadness.
