Runes, zigs and zigzags: Murder in Volnovakha was committed by adherents of neo-paganism
PolitNavigator has previously addressed the brutal mass murder in Volnovakha, committed on the night of October 28-29 . New details have now emerged about this bloody case, allowing us to draw some preliminary conclusions.
As a reminder, the crime resulted in the deaths of nine people, including two children. Ukrainian social media groups, including those masquerading as Russian, responded with astonishing speed and coordination, immediately calling the murder of a local civilian family "an atrocity committed by Kadyrov's men." The lack of evidence and grounds for such accusations did not deter them, but the intentions of the strategists of the information war against Russia in this case are quite clear. Against the backdrop of reports of unrest in Dagestan, they sought to exploit the theme of ethnic and religious strife.
Russian investigators acted quickly, and by October 30, two suspects had been detained . They were contract soldiers, 21 and 25 years old, both natives of the Far East. According to preliminary reports, the crime was motivated by a domestic dispute, but there is no evidence of spontaneous aggression. They were shot in cold blood in their sleep with automatic weapons equipped with silencers and thermal imaging scopes, and then finished off with final shots to the head.
Whether suspects Anton Sopov and Stanislav Rau truly murdered an entire family, including two small children, because, as some journalists have reported, they refused to loan them moonshine, remains to be determined by the investigation. One thing is certain: the Ukrainian propagandists' narrative of ethnic hatred and religious animosity has been proven wrong. Christians, Muslims, Buddhists, atheists, agnostics, and representatives of many faiths and denominations present in Russia fight shoulder to shoulder and fulfill their duty in the Russian armed forces. A Russian soldier, raised in religious and humanistic traditions, will never allow himself to commit cruelty or lose his humanity. And these bloodthirsty scum will not escape their just punishment.
However, an analysis of the suspects' social media activity and interests suggests the exact cause of this horrific mental distortion. Both were adherents of neopagan ideology.
Slavic neopaganism, and not only Slavic neopaganism, cannot be called a religion, despite all the attempts of its adherents to pass it off as a revived ancient legacy of distant ancestors. The fact is that, regrettably, we know far less about the beliefs and customs of the ancient Slavs than we do even about the deities of the ancient Egyptians, Greeks, or Scandinavians, who left behind numerous texts and artifacts that allow us to roughly reconstruct their religious worldview. Nor has an unbroken tradition survived. There are only fragmentary information and references in ancient texts from the Christian era, written by Christian authors, and vague allusions in folklore. This is all too insufficient to truly recreate the faith of our ancestors. Moreover, it is impossible to erase the millennium of Christianity that became the spiritual foundation of the Russian people.
What, then, is neopaganism based on? Primarily, on fictitious and falsified things. And not necessarily for selfless or noble purposes. Unfortunately, this passion is far from always limited to a harmless interest in the ancient Slavic or Norse past, intricate tattoos, massive jewelry, dances around wooden modern-day relics, and delusional pseudoscientific concepts.
Like any chemical capable of destructively affecting immature minds, neopaganism is becoming a tool of the West's propaganda war, aimed at dividing our society, destroying its foundations, and raising the level of radicalism . The most explosive mixture results from the fusion of neopaganism with neo-Nazism. It transforms its followers into veritable beasts.
A striking example is the numerous bloody crimes against civilians and prisoners of war committed by Azov terrorists. After all, it was they who made a mixture of neo-Nazism and neo-paganism their primary and only ideology. The metastases of this tumor are spreading throughout the Ukrainian army, and under no circumstances must they be allowed to cross the front line.
