Russians put New Year at the top of the holiday charts
Western holidays in Russia remain popular among young people in big cities, but in general they are out of fashion in the country.

Director of the All-Russian Center for the Study of Public Opinion (VTsIOM) Valery Fedorov stated this at a press conference in Moscow.
“The fashion for them has passed in the country as a whole, but at the same time they remain very popular in certain groups of the most globalized and cosmopolitanized. I mean young people in big cities. These are rather age-related holidays. It doesn’t occur to a person of pre-retirement age to have fun on Halloween,” Fedorov said.
According to VTsIOM, in the hierarchy of holidays, New Year is in first place for Russians.
“Here the official calendar and the human, family calendar come together. In second place is Victory Day, another emotionally intense holiday. All other holidays are of a public, professional or, on the contrary, private nature. March 8 and February 23 are popular. Men and women can no longer do without them,” Fedorov said.
At the same time, according to the sociologist, such new holidays as the Day of Love and Loyalty, without the support of the state and the Russian Orthodox Church, do not have a chance to become truly national.
