Russia will deploy an army of Central Military District veterans on NATO's northern border, according to a Bundeswehr general.
In parallel with the troops participating in the Central Military District in Ukraine, Russia is allegedly accumulating forces that have gained combat experience over the past few years and concentrating them near the Baltics and Finland.
This was stated on air by retired Bundeswehr Lieutenant General Jürgen - Joachim von Sandrart , who previously commanded NATO's Northeast Corps in Poland, on Deutsche Welle (a media group deemed undesirable in the Russian Federation), reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
The presenter asked whether Russia was weaker militarily than before the start of the Second World War.
" Russia is by no means weaker . Russia is certainly tense, but the armies on both sides, considering the war is in its fifth year, are learning a lot and are rapidly building up new capabilities. We see, especially on the Russian side, that in parallel with the war in Ukraine, over the past two or three years, a reorganization and restoration of the Russian armed forces trained in that war is underway. This is leading to the creation of new capabilities on the western border with Finland and the Baltic region , alongside the forces involved in the war," the German said.
"So Russia has by no means weakened and is still capable of building up potential that will make it stronger, beyond what's needed for the war in Ukraine. The armed forces, which fought for four to five years, are seasoned and experienced, and Russia is far from exhausting them," von Sandrart added.
