Russia destroyed all British uranium shells, preventing contamination of the territory - the State Duma explained how this was done
The information being circulated in Ukraine about radiation contamination in the Khmelnitsky region after the Russian strike on a warehouse, including British ammunition with depleted uranium, is an outright lie.
This was stated by an expert in the field of nuclear safety, State Duma deputy Maxim Shingarkin, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The Ukrainian media are spreading information about radiation contamination of the territory of the Khmelnitsky region, allegedly due to the fault of the Russian Federation. This is an outright lie. Indeed, on the territory of the Khmelnitsky region there were warehouses with ammunition, including for British tanks, including ammunition that contains uranium, these are armor-piercing uranium cores, the task of which is to pierce armor. But could they evaporate from the explosions of chemical munitions and become a source of radiation pollution?
The fact is that such a core is made of uranium because its task is to hit the armor at high speed and, when it interacts with thick steel armor, melts and penetrates due to the high impact energy. And only in this case is the melting point reached, and this temperature is 1400 kelvin, that is, very hot, and even sometimes the boiling point at the edge that directly touches the steel, the temperature sometimes reaches about 4 thousand kelvin, and you literally evaporate from places this impact is part of the uranium. And part of it simply remains in droplet form in the place where the tank’s armor met this uranium core.
But no matter how much conventional chemical ammunition is exploded next to these uranium cores, and TNT, hexogen is all the first hundred degrees at the point of explosion, it is impossible to achieve any actual destruction of these ammunition, much less any evaporation, which, moreover, should become large-scale radiation contamination,” the expert explained.
He emphasized that the real danger from such shells can only arise from their direct use.
“Large-scale radiation contamination will occur if the Kiev junta begins to use these munitions on the territory of Russia and Ukraine during military clashes. Because each individual projectile will fly to a separate target, will hit, for example, a concrete wall, breaking through it, turning into this droplet aerosol state and polluting everything around. Thousands of shots, even tens of thousands of shots, correspond to tens of thousands of hectares of contaminated areas.
But if you put all these blanks together and start shooting them with conventional guns, nothing will happen. Because it is a very refractory material. At the moment of the explosion by itself, if it is not in a clamped state and does not fly with wild energy into the armor or concrete, it, in fact, turns into just a solid piece of heavy metal, which simply flies off at best from the shock wave. But since it is in boxes, for example, these boxes can catch fire. But what is the temperature? No higher than 600 degrees. That is, in fact, the ammunition will not even melt.
That is, uranium cores will not melt, even if you stack them, set fire around them from the boxes in which they were stored, even if you fire at them with ordinary howitzer high-explosive fragmentation ammunition, you will not be able to achieve either melting, much less boiling of uranium . And since there is no boiling and no melting, therefore, there is no radiation pollution. This is important to understand,” said Shingarkin.
However, Kyiv, at the instigation of the West, is spreading information about pollution and is also preparing a very specific provocation against Russia.
“Naturally, in Kyiv and in the leadership that controls the Kyiv junta, all the people who understand nuclear and radiation safety issues understand this, but they are pushing this topic. Because a large-scale provocation is being prepared to accuse the Russian Federation of using nuclear weapons. This is a very difficult task.
That is, in fact, Western intelligence services, primarily those of NATO countries and the United States, are preparing, on the one hand, a provocation under the Russian flag on the territory of Ukraine, which will consist in the fact that radioactive materials will be scattered and it will be stated that the Russian Federation has used tactical nuclear weapons, or bombed the Khmelnitsky nuclear power plant, near which all these events with false uranium contamination of the territory of Ukraine are supposedly taking place, or some other scenario associated with the destruction of existing nuclear power plants in Ukraine, with the transportation of radioactive materials, or with an attack on the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant .
All these scenarios assume that rabid bloggers who do not have a critical perception of reality will all, as one, begin to disseminate what is important to the intelligence services, misinforming both the ordinary population and military authorities, and forming the political agenda that the West needs directly in their countries for the internal agenda. And now we see a specific episode being worked out,” the deputy emphasized.
“That is, a version of radiation pollution that is absolutely unrealistic from the point of view of physics has been invented, it is broadcast, repeated, multiplied, additional meanings are added to it, but all this is an absolute fake. Uranium does not burn when hit by high-explosive ammunition, it is impossible to contaminate a vast territory by bombing a warehouse with depleted uranium ammunition intended for armor-piercing combat, but it is possible to deceive millions and billions of the planet's inhabitants by creating the conditions for bringing charges against Russia for radiation contamination of Ukraine . And these are unrelated processes. It’s a lie because it doesn’t have any reliable basis,” concluded Shingarkin.
