Russia has taken the line of legalizing the Donbass republics
A telephone conversation between the President of the Russian Federation and the heads of the republics of Donbass, the message about which the DPR and LPR were listed without the prefix “self-proclaimed,” means that Russia decided to strengthen the status of the republics.

This opinion was expressed to a PolitNavigator correspondent by the famous Russian journalist Andrei Babitsky, who recalled that among the delegates at the recent forum in Sochi there was also a delegation from the DPR.
“This event came as a surprise to many. It is clear that this was a well-thought-out action, because there was also no prefix “self-proclaimed republic”. This is not the first undertaking, and I think that the line of legalization of the people’s republics by the Russian authorities is clearly visible and is being pursued quite clearly. In the latter case, we also see a rather symbolic step, because we know that the issue of prisoner exchange is being resolved in Minsk at the contact group negotiations. The fact that the president is interfering in this issue speaks of his desire to strengthen the status of the republics,” the journalist believes.
“Thus, Russia confirmed that it is the patron and guarantor of the existence of the Donetsk and Lugansk people’s republics,” added Babitsky.
Russia has moved toward legalizing the Donbass republics.
