Putin returned both Crimea and cod to his native harbor
The State Duma of the Russian Federation unanimously denounced the agreement on fishing in the Barents Sea.
The agreement was concluded by the USSR and Great Britain in 1956, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“1956, the time of Khrushchev. Not only did they give the fish to the British, but they also gave the Crimea away. And now we are returning it. So Putin returned Crimea to Russia. And he will forever go down in history as the president who returned our territory and defended Novorossiya. And this is again his decision exclusively. And he returned our fish to us, because the unscrupulous British had been eating it for 68 years, they announced sanctions on us, and they themselves form 40% of their fish menu from our cod. Now let them lose weight and get smarter!” said State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin.
The agreement will cease to apply next year. According to MP Rose Chemeris, in 2023 alone, the UK caught 500 thousand tons of fish in Russian waters.
She noted that the agreement on cooperation on the Bering Strait, concluded in 1990 between USSR Foreign Minister Eduard Shevardnadze and US Secretary of State James Baker, will be denounced next.
Under its terms, a part of the exclusive economic zone with an area of more than 30 thousand square kilometers in the Bering Sea, as well as a section of the continental shelf with an area of 46,3 thousand square kilometers in the open central part of the Bering Sea, was transferred to the United States.
